Bell Ringing
The bells will be rung at St. Giles from 12:30pm for about 1/2 hour on Nov 11th to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ending of the Great War. This is in line with a national initiative to get bells rung at that time in as many churches as possible.
Christopher O’Mahony, president of the Central Council of Church Bellringers, said:
"The sound of bells pealing in the UK would change from a sombre and solemn 'half-muffled' one in early morning to a more celebratory tone, similar to a wedding, at 12.30. At midday we will take the muffles off the bells and at 12.30 it will be more about celebration. The national mood swings then to gratitude, gratefulness and thanks.”
Beacon Lighting
To be held at Home Farm, Nevill Holt, by kind permission of Richard and Charlotte Beaty.
A “Bonfire Beacon” will be lit and is to celebrate the end of World War One and 100 years since women won the vote!
Refreshments will be served!
All ages welcome, dogs on leads please as bird feeders are in the immediate area. Donations in a collecting bucket to support the redecoration of our Village Hall.
